Retirement Planning: 5 Things You Need to Know
Posted by Jim Peters at November 12th, 2012
No matter what age you are, retirement will be right around the corner before you know it. Retirement planning now is the best way to keep your retirement years more pleasurable and secure.
Here are five things you need to know about retirement planning:
Plan on the time you want to retire. If you are planning to retire early, you need to have more savings sooner. Think about how much money you need to finance the education of your children, the payment for the mortgage, and the expenses you have to face for your trips abroad.
Plan on how to accumulate the money you need after retirement. You are entitled to a retirement benefit or a pension plan. Retirement planning entails you to think about your future needs. Maximize your expenses. Inflation occurs and price increases are inevitable. When you foresee a savings gap, increase your savings amount. Select investments with a higher return on investment.
Plan on how you can optimize your tax advantages. Capital gains and investments invoke a lesser tax treatment than interest payments. Holding stocks, savings bonds, and other interest-earning instruments helps you against high taxes.
Plan on what you have to do after retirement. As much as you want to spend your retirement leisurely, it is impossible. You need to advance yourself socially and financially. Before your retirement, look for menial and part time jobs. It may not put a lot of money in your pocket, but can make you feel useful.
Plan on building an emergency fund. Some expenses unexpectedly appear. Your child asks you for some financial assistance in a down payment for a new car or house. Your furnace breaks down and your car needs a new set of tires. Retirement planning keeps you ready for these unforeseen situations.
